Colectiva Tramando - Women in dictatorship: threads of memory

Development of a digital platform for the exhibition and dissemination of the collective tapestry and curatorial texts by prominent authors, focused on memory and resilience during the civic-military dictatorship in Chile.

Colectiva Tramando, Valentin Jadot

2023

Colectiva Tramando is a group of weavers founded in late 2019, under the leadership of textile artist Daniela Contreras Flores. Since its origin, the collective works through tapestry as a tool for addressing, reflecting on and making visible political, social and artistic themes. One of its most relevant projects, "A reconstruir el tejido social" (Rebuilding the social fabric), presented images and stories of the social outbreak in Chile and was exhibited at the Museo de Arte Popular Americano (MAPA) in March 2020.

In 2023, the collective oriented its research and creation toward the development of the collaborative tapestry "Mujeres en dictadura: tramas de la memoria" (Women in dictatorship: threads of memory), focused on recognizing practices of resistance and resilience exercised by women during the Chilean civic-military dictatorship. This work articulates memory, history and collective weaving as a form of political action and symbolic reparation.

The textile practice that drives Colectiva Tramando values ancestral techniques of the Andean cord and dialogues with the tradition of arpilleristas and embroiderers. From a feminist and collaborative perspective, the tapestry becomes a platform for denunciation, memory and interdisciplinary creation, highlighting the political role of textile practices within contemporary art and rethinking their transformative potential in today's society.
